Another try at Roast pork fried egg over rice (Cha siu jin dan fan, or 叉燒煎蛋飯), also in North Point. This time at 強記飯店 (15-17 Shu Kuk St). Better than this place where I was served for the first time ever by a topless chef with moobs hanging out, but still not the best in Hong Kong. Gotta keep looking!
In search of the Best Egg Tarts in Hong Kong. I’ve loved egg tarts ever since I was a wee lass. Decided to start with an obvious, well know HK bakery chain - Egg Tarts @ Taipan (大班). Sad to say this, but STAY AWAY. Unflavorful and dry, sigh! Would love some direction with this one - please leave suggestions in the comments!
Wonton Noodle Soup at 七喜粥麵小廚 (North Point). Actually not very good at all. Noodles are a bit bitter and a little too “al dente” for my liking. Comes with almost no vegetables. The only plus side was the wonton, which had two shrimp in each. More shrimp than I normally come across. But all in all, stay away.
Best ice cream in Hong Kong is IMHO at McDonald’s. I’m happy to keep trying until proven wrong, but I’m serious. And to all you people who just turned your nose up at the thought of stepping into a McD’s, stop reading my Tumblr.
Cheeseburger at Cafe Deco Bar & Grill in The Peak Galleria (Level 1 & 2 Peak Galleria, 118 Peak Road). Well-seasoned, savory. According to some (ahem, Nick), considered the best burger in HK. According to me? The Big Bite is actually better.
So far, the BEST Dim Sum I’ve had in Hong Kong - Lin Heung Tea House (160 Wellington Street). Bonus points for local atmosphere and having to fight off others for your seat & your food. Also apparently features traditional dim sum dishes that can’t be found in most dim sum places nowadays, like quail egg shumai. But BEWARE - this dim sum is not for the faint of heart. Who will conquer Lin Heung as the new BEST Dim Sum in Hong Kong? Stay tuned…
Note, the BEST Shumai in Hong Kong still belongs to Fung Shing Restaurant
Wonton Noodle Soup @ 新華記粉麵 (Kam Hong Street, North Point). One bowl = HKD $16… and it’s very very good. Yet to decide whether it’s the best. But I love this hole in the wall 車仔麵 place - a regular lunch spot for me.
